Organic Growing

Organic certification denotes a strict adherence to the exclusionof all synthetic chemicals, antibiotics, hormones, and pesticides, and anemphasis on renewable resources and conservation. A farm that wishes to becertified "organic" must meet these standards for a specified amountof time (typically three years) before earning the designation. Wines labeled"100% organic" are composed of 100% organically grown grapes andcontain no added sulfites (a small amount of sulfite is a natural byproduct ofthe fermentation process). Wines labeled "organic" are composed of atleast 95% organically grown grapes and may not contain added sulfites. Wineslabeled "made with organic grapes" are composed of at least 70% organically grown grapes and may contain up to one hundred parts per million added sulfur dioxide.
