The History
The Quinta Vale do Olmo vineyards are planted on terraces on the schist-rich soils of the Douro region of Portugal. Though these vineyards have been managed by the Carvalho Martins family for four generations, up until recently the domaine sold the majority of their fruit and wine to larger companies within the region.
The youngest generation - the Carvalho Martins brothers, who grew up amongst the vines eventually came together to realize the full potential of their family's estate; to make their own wine to represent the unique terroir of the Douro region.
The Philosophy
The Quinta Vale do Olmo vineyards are located in Mêda, Douro Superior. The climate here is hot and dry throughout much of the year, which allows the brothers to successfully use sustainable and organic methods of farming and to avoid the excessive use of herbicides or fungicides in the vineyards.
