The History
Ferdinando Principiano’s family has been farming in the Langhe regions for generations. Unlike much of the rest of Barolo, Ferdinando’s vineyards appear a little less industrious and a little more idyllic. There is a small patch of woodland from which you can hear birds , between the rows clover and wildflowers grow and are crawling with bees and insects.
Looking at the incredible and perfectly pieced together puzzle of Barolo vineyards, very few stand out with natural flora and fauna, as the land is too valuable to take ‘risks’ with Organic farming. The vines of Principiano are one of the few and extraordinary exceptions.
The Philosophy
Principiano Ferdinando farm their vineyards Organically. Treatments are strictly kept to copper and sulfur only when necessary. In the winery only wild yeasts are used and minimal to no sulfur is used only prior to bottling. Wines are aged in large-format Slavic oak.
A sincere love for the purest expression of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto is where this house rests its hat.
