Montesecondo’s Chianti Classico is a pure and elegant expression of Sangiovese from one of the most respected biodynamic estates in the appellation.
The wine comes from the estate’s original vineyards in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, where Sangiovese grows on a mix of galestro and alberese limestone at roughly 270 to 300 meters elevation. These cooler northern sites give the wine its hallmark finesse, tension and aromatics.
Grapes are harvested manually, then fermented spontaneously; 30% whole cluster fermentaion and only 3-4 days maceration. The wine then ages in cement tanks for a year and then bottles with minimal sulphur and no filtering or fining.
Tasting note
Bright, lifted and refined, with notes of sour cherry, red plum, rose petal, citrus peel and crushed herbs. The palate is vibrant and savory with fine tannins, lively acidity and a long, mineral finish.
