One of a kind! This shōchū (distilled spirit) is produced in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, on the island of Kyūshū, one of Japan’s historic centres of shōchū production. Made from Yamadanishiki rice and red shiso (perilla) leaves, it combines the savoury depth of rice shōchū with distinctive herbal and minty aromatics from the shiso.

Red shiso has long been used in Japan to flavour and colour foods, condiments, and beverages. Here, it gives the spirit a fresh, lifted character that works well served over ice, in cocktails, or diluted with cold water in the traditional mizuwari style.
