Jasper Wickens is part of a new generation of Swartland winemakers exploring the region's old vineyards and the possibilities of minimal intervention winemaking. Oranje Blanje is his take on orange wine, combining the freshness of Chenin Blanc with the texture and structure of extended skin contact.
Early-harvested Chenin Blanc undergoes spontaneous fermentation on skins for 22 days. Grenache Blanc contributes additional texture. Followed by 10 months ageing in neutral oak.
Bright and expressive, with aromas of tangerine, bergamot, quince and chamomile, alongside yellow apple and a mineral undertone. Vibrant acidity keeps the palate fresh, while gentle tannins lend structure and a savoury finish.
