The “Skin” is the first wine Craig and Carla Hawkins released in 2008. Since the first vintage, they have toned down on the extraction and reduced the time spent on skins to achieve an elegant style they love. Made from 100% organic, dry-farmed bush vine Chenin Blanc planted in 1972 on the decomposed granite of Paardeberg, the vineyard faces east and sits 200m above sea level.
The grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and macerated on skins for 12 days (a little less than previous releases).
Expect a heady aromatic mix of spice, citrus fruits, tree fruits, and an elegant minerality on the palate that's balanced by intense fruit weight, subtle texture, and a powerful finish.
